NK Celje

NK Celje – FC Luka Koper
1X2, Regular match part
Match Description: This is the 35th round of the First Slovene Football League, kicking off at 20:15. Celje found themselves in a tough spot in Nova Gorica, falling behind as early as the 3rd minute to the home team. However, they didn’t give up and demonstrated a higher level of skill than their opponents, who are struggling at the bottom of the table. Gradually, they took control of the game, equalized, and then scored the winning goal. This victory earned them three crucial points, keeping them in second place on the league table. They still have a lot of work left, though, with matches against Koper and Olimpija ahead. Will Celje confirm their silver ambitions when they visit the Canaries on Saturday? Aljoša Matko is in fantastic scoring form—having netted five goals in his last three matches, including the last one in Nova Gorica. He scored with a powerful header from a cross by young Nejc Ajhmajer, who made his first assist for the Celje club. Celje enjoys a home advantage against Koper, where they have been very successful this season. Only Olimpija has amassed more points at home than Celje (44 to 35), and Celje has a better home record than Maribor (33 points). They've secured 57% of their points at home, while Maribor has only managed 55%.
Koper has complicated their quest for a European spot. They had a great opportunity to distance themselves from the teams behind them on the fourth spot, leading to the UEFA Europa Conference League, but missed the chance. Instead, they allowed Domžale and Mura to get closer, both of whom keep their European dreams alive. Koper can take solace in the fact that their fate is still in their own hands, but the road ahead is challenging. In the upcoming round, they will be facing Celje, a team vying for second place. The Primorci have not beaten the Celje side this year; will they change that trend? Koper is eager to forget their match against Domžale, though not entirely. Bright Edomwonyi proved once again that he is a spot-kick specialist, and Andrej Kotnik pulled off what might be the moment of the match—or even the season—early in the second half. After a defender halted his shot, Kotnik maneuvered his way expertly through the opposition and finished with a goal. Statistics reveal that only four players have featured in all 34 matches this season: Adnan Golubović, Almin Kurtović, Matija Kavčič, and Alen Korošec. Golubović and Kavčič are the models of endurance: the Šiška defender has clocked 2,974 minutes, while Koper's keeper has 82 minutes more and is likely to maintain that lead through the season's end. Celje holds the favorite tag for this match, but will they justify that status?

Tabor Sezana (+1)
2.07
Tabor Sezana – NK Maribor
1X2 with a handicap of 1, Regular match part
Match Description: In the 35th round of the elite Slovene Football League, we have a matchup at 15:00 between the home team Sežana and the visiting Maribor. It's clear that Sežana must secure at least one win in their closing matches to avoid relegation. Last week, they had a valuable chance in a match against Bravo. The Ljubljana side approached that match relaxed, having already secured their top-flight status by surprising Prekmurje. However, Tabor dug their own grave early in the game with a significant error from Kaleba, allowing the hosts to take the lead. Though Sežana equalized, they didn’t demonstrate enough to claim victory. This time, it’s going to be tougher as last year's champions are in town. Tabor was nearly facing defeat due to Kaleba's blunder, but in the 85th minute they reignited hopes for a point. Ovsenek rose well from a corner to head towards goal but could not beat the home keeper. Luckily for the Kraševci, Dino Halilović was there to scoop up the rebound and score—this marked his first league goal after joining Slovenia last winter. Maribor hasn’t lost to Tabor in almost three years; their last defeat in Kras was in September 2020 with a score of 3:1. Interestingly, Sežana was quite a tough opponent for the Štajers in their debut season, having shocked the football community with two wins at home (4:1). However, they are struggling at home this year, having only collected 10 points at their ground.
Before the Saturday cup final, which marks the fifth eternal derby of the season, the Maribor players had a little more hope for success. After all, they secured a better position than Olimpija by defeating Prekmurje, who fell to Radomlje. But in Celje, history and stats took a backseat. We witnessed a game that could be compared to a chess match, concluding in a dramatic thriller and celebrated by Ljubljana fans. Maribor will end the season without a trophy, and they hope to make it up to their disheartened supporters at Kras. Can Damir Krznar and his team at least reach the second position? When an opponent scores against you in the 102nd minute of stoppage time, one has to give it all. Damir Krznar did just that by bringing in Nemanja Mitrović, surprisingly positioned at the front. The former Olimpija player found himself in the perfect spot near Maribor’s goal, managing to level the game just minutes from the end. However, he will miss the match at Kras due to accumulating yellow cards—who will step in for him? The 32-year-old Rene Krhin recently announced his retirement from professional football. This defensive midfielder, who was once part of Maribor's youth setup, moved to Italy back in 2006, playing for Inter and Bologna. His career also took him through Spain (Córdoba, Granada, and later Castellón) and France (Nantes). Most recently, Krhin played for Australia’s Western United.
